Network background

Auckland East Community Network Inc was founded in 2023 in response to Auckland Council cuts in local board funding of budgets that had been supporting community projects and events.

Auckland East Community Network Inc was effectively a merger of two unincorporated groups:

Eastern Bays Network
Informal monthly meetings run by Auckland Council staff with the Ōrākei Local Board where people exchanged updates about the activities of local community groups and heard news from various teams at Auckland Council.

Community Wellbeing Network
This was an informal group (Colin and Terry) based at The Community of St Luke church, who had since 2020, used age-friendly funding from the Ōrākei Local Board to run projects and events for local older people.
