  • Auckland Restorative Justice Trust (ARJT) is a registered charitable Trust that delivers restorative justice services for the Auckland and North Shore District Courts.

Restorative justice focuses on redressing the harm experienced by victims of crime by holding the offender to account for what they have done. The process usually involves the victim and the offender coming face-to-face at a meeting called a restorative justice conference. This meeting allows the victim to express how the offending has affected them, and allows all the people present to acknowledge the harm that has been caused and identify ways to put things right. If a victim does not want to meet the offender but still wants them to be held accountable the offender can take part in a community panel conference. In this process, a group of trained community volunteers meets with the offender and their support people in a facilitated conversation about what happened and how the offender can make amends.
